Late last night #1300KOALAZ‘ Bia came into care with suspected chlamydia.

This morning she is off to the vets for a thorough check over and a chlamydia test.

In the meantime she will be a guest at one of our branches of Hotel 1300KOALAZ.

As you all know #1300KOALAZ #Claude has been vacationing at Adelaide Koala & Wildlife Centre following being hit by a car late last week. Unfortunately yesterday when vets were monitoring him they noticed some bloat in Claude’s stomach and stiffness in his elbow that warranted further investigation.

X-rays of Claude’s abdomen and elbow revealed severe bloat and an old injury to his elbow that was causing it to not sit in its joint properly. These gut and physical injuries may explain why Claude has not been able to thrive in the wild and why he’s been rescued so many times lately. Unfortunately, the heartbreaking decision was made to give Claude peace 🌈💔

Whilst we are all heartbroken, 1300KOALAZ would still like to thank everyone involved in Claude’s care, rescue and the brilliant vet team for their amazing work.

Here in South Australia a DEW permit is required to be able to rescue and/or care for a koala.

It is also illegal to keep a koala as a pet.

So you can imagine our concern when we were sent to a rescue where two individuals were attempting to retrieve a koala to keep as a pet.

Fortunately for the koala, which was tagged, our rescuer managed to retrieve Mark the koala as he was climbing down and get him into her car and drive away before anything could happen to him.

The police had been called and hopefully arrived after our rescuer left to have words with the two individuals.

Mark was dropped off not too far away but out of harms way.

Please, if you need to call someone to rescue a koala make sure the individual has a rescue or carers permit. All of our rescuers and carers have the correct permits to allow them to rescue and/or care for a koala legally.

There's one on our street on a small tree it came out of a abandoned area. Not sure if it needs to be rescued but it's just confused and my street is all houses so I'm pretty sure it's lost

Thank you for saving this precious boy paws crossed their lots of healthy eucalyptus trees for him to say safe and healthy Our governments and councils need to plant more eucalyptus trees and make safer habitats away from humans and cars and supply residents and property owners and communities with eucalyptus trees ro plant to make healthy habitats for these precious endangered koalas 🐨 Maybe rescue group can help educate these humans and get them to do volunteer work in sanctuaries so can educate and help them and these precious koalas 🐨

Claude our #1300KOALAZ boomerang koala is back again.

He just can’t help himself, but gets into trouble at the drop of a hat. This time he was hit by a motor vehicle which left him with cuts, bruises and an open wound under his arm.

To stop this open wound getting infected he is vacationing at the Koala Hospital for the weekend so it can be treated before he will once more come into care.

Please, please slow down when driving between dusk and dawn when koalas are most active.
